LAFC OPPOSES APARTMENT PROJECT NEAR STADIUM

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has appealed against a 40-unit apartment project near its Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park. The soccer team says the project would block the view of a historic sign that reads “Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum”, which is a historic-cultural monument. The LAFC also says the project would harm the noise and air quality, as well as create traffic and parking issues.

The City Planning Commission approved the project on August 24, 2023, but the LAFC filed an appeal on September 29, 2023. The appeal is pending before the City Council’s Planning & Land Use Management Committee. The LAFC wants the committee to deny the project.

The Exposition Park Neighborhood Association, a group of residents and stakeholders, also opposes the project. The developer, however, claims that the project is compatible with the area and would provide housing and revitalize Exposition Park.

The Banc of California Stadium, which opened in 2018, is home to the LAFC, a professional soccer team in MLS. The stadium has 22,000 seats and hosts various events.

LA CITY ACCUSES EVICTION LAW FIRM OF FAKES CASES & FACES SANCTIONS👇

Dennis P. Block and Associates, a LA eviction law firm, submitted a fake court filing that contained false and irrelevant statements. The filing was in response to a tenant’s motion to quash an eviction complaint. The judge who reviewed the filing ordered the firm to pay $999 to the tenant’s law firm as a sanction.

The article by LAist suggests that the firm might have used a generative artificial intelligence program, such as ChatGPT, to produce the filing. The article also reviews some of the lawsuits that former clients have filed against Block or his firm for mishandling evictions and negligence.

The article says that Block’s firm is not the only one that uses questionable tactics to evict tenants in LA. The article cites a report by UCLA that found that many eviction cases in LA are based on false or incomplete information and that tenants often lack legal representation or access to justice.

GIGI HADID FATHER LIST VACANT LOT FOR SALE

A vacant lot in Bel Air that was once the site of a controversial megamansion project by developer Mohamed Hadid is on the market for $18 million. Hadid faced lawsuits and criminal charges for violating building codes and endangering the public. The half-built structure, nicknamed “Starship Enterprise”, was demolished in 2020, leaving only its foundation.

The lot offers panoramic views of the city and the ocean, but also a history of legal troubles and public outrage. The listing agent said that he has received multiple offers for the property, which has the potential to be developed into a dream home or a luxury hotel. However, any buyer would have to deal with the existing foundation, which might be difficult to remove or modify.

Hadid, who is the father of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid, is also facing a lawsuit from his former partner, Miranda Kerr, who claims that he owes her $1.4 million for a loan she gave him in 2014.

MAYOR BASS APPOINTED TO LA HOMELESSNESS COMMISSION

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has joined the LA Homeless Service Authority (LAHSA) Commission, which oversees homelessness spending and services in L.A. She is the first L.A. mayor to serve on the commission, and she wants to improve the collaboration between the city and county to tackle the homelessness crisis.

Bass has launched Inside Safe, a program that brings unhoused people into motels and hotels. She also wants the federal government to ease the rules that require documentation before someone can be housed.

Bass hopes that by joining the LAHSA Commission, she can help move people from temporary to permanent housing, and increase the supply of affordable and supportive housing in L.A.
